Bureaucracy blows
Just a short post today, because not much has happened and this is why:
Everything has been paid for, all papers have been filled out, all visas have been issued….now I must wait for the eikaiwa to tell me what’s next.
And I won’t hear from them until about three weeks before I leave (which, remember, is in September).
I can deal with the overpriced flights and with the convenient insurance that serves only to make them more profits. I can deal with their administration fee and the allegedly crappy conditions I’ll be forced to work under. I can deal with being given accomodation that’s far from my work and probably overpriced.
But WHY must I wait until three weeks before I leave before finding out where in Japan I’ll be living and working? They’ve been given 3 months notice!
Bah! Bureaucracy.

Which pimps are these?
Don’t worry about protecting the guilty eikaiwa, they won’t lift a finger for you …
If it is nova, you are so screwed …

Heheheh, I still don’t want to say! You never know. There have been people fired from other companies for what they say in their blogs or online. Their may be a clause somewhere in the fine print that says similar in my job. I ain’t protecting the eikaiwa, I’m protecting myself :) Hope you understand

Hi there. i found this blog when doing a search for teaching opportunities in japan. from what i read on this page - it looked like NOVA was the only one that didnt require the Bacehlors - is that right? I would love to go to Japan and I figure a teaching job would be the quiest way to get in the door. Though my nihongo is pretty crap right now. I studied for a year at TAFE here in oz but have forgotten a lot of it. Have been thinking of going to uni to study the language further but that means putting off going to Japan even longer…
Anyways, I hope you write about your experience because I would love to know more about it. I have a friend on live journal who is in JET and another at AEON and I like hearing about what they are doing. :D
I will stop rambling now.

I will neither confirm nor deny any employment by Nova :P
I don’t think that lack of Japanese knowledge will be a huge hindrance. All of the eikaiwa say so. At any rate, even after a year of studying Japanese at uni, you’ll only have the basics, know hiragana and katakana and know maybe 25 kanji. The kanji is the most frustrating part for me. I know so little of it! Anyway, my point is that I don’t think it’s worth going to uni to learn Japanese. Try buying a textbook called “Japanese for Busy People”, that’ll help you self study :)

Lol - i studied Japanese for a year and we used the Japanese for Busy People Textbook. :D i still have all my notes and stuff. i still can remember all the hiragana but i sometimes forget certain katakana. its just so easy to forget when you dont regularly have opportnity to utilise what you have learnt. watching anime and listening to japanese popular music is not exactly helpful :D

Oh, I don’t know about anime being unhelpful >:-D For me, it helped me learn very useful terms like “Baka!” and “Urusai!” or “Nyaa!”.
This is a great link for people who want to learn some slang and common anime phrases: http://www.angelfire.com/anime4/jslang/jibiki.htm
